- Laser Vision Correction
Laser Vision Correction is the use of Laser treatment to correct refractive errors .These are vision problems caused by an imperfectly shaped cornea commonly described as short sightedness (myopia), Long sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. Refractive errors occur when light from an object is imprecisely focused on the eye's retina, causing blurred images. Laser Refractive Surgery works by reshaping the cornea, hence changing the curvature to improve the way light enters the eye.
We will perform a Pre- Lasik evaluation to determines a patient's eligibility for laser vision correction .The pre-operative assessment is the first step in your vision correction process and at this stage,we will determine your candidacy, and if you meet the criteria, we will advise you on which vision solution is best suited to your eyesight requirements Laser surgery is very safe and sight threatening complications are very rare. Done as an outpatient procedure,it is performed under Local anesthesia to the eyes only and mild sedation, with no need for admission. There are several approaches to laser eye surgery.Broadly there are two main methods of doing refractive laser surgery , lasik and PRK
TREATMENTS
Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) also known as surface ablation (SA) is a technique used in laser vision correction of refractive errors by reshaping the cornea. This procedure involves the removal of the top layer of the cornea(the epithelium) by gently brushing it off to allow access to the part that needs reshaping. This can be with the excimer laser or using a diluted alcohol solution. The outer layer will regenerate and repair itself naturally during the recovery period.
LASIK involves creating a circular flap in the cornea, leaving a hinge on one side, which remains attached to the rest of the cornea.Once the flap is created ,it is folded back to give access to the curvature of the cornea to be reshaped using a programmed laser .The flap is then returned to its original position once the laser treatment is completed and re-attaches itself to the cornea without the need for stitches.
The principle of Corneal Regularization is to reshape the cornea and convert the irregular astigmatism that occurs in Keratoconus. At Eagle Eye, this is carried out with excimer laser, using advanced topography-guided custom ablation, performing the laser on the side of the cornea which is thicker thus, flattening the cone-shaped cornea while avoiding damaging the cornea that is already thin. Cross Linking (CXL) is done immediately after.
Implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery is a vision corrective alternative that involves placing an artificial lens between the iris and lens without affecting the corneal tissue. It is an excellent vision correction procedure for those with high prescription power; those not eligible for laser surgery and for those with stable keratoconus. ICL must be customized and usually take between 4-12 weeks to procure.
It is an effective, safe, and quick procedure that permanently corrects a patient’s vision. The healing time is fast and most patients report going back to normal activities the very next day!
