The treatment of dry eyes includes frequent eye drops to lubricate the eyes. However, in a few cases where it is severe, one may require to block the excess drainage of tears by occluding or plugging the punctum with a device.
A pterygium is the growth of the conjunctiva (the white of the eye) that extends onto the cornea( the clear covering of the eye). This may extend to the visual axis thus affecting the vision. The mainstay of treatment is removal, combined with graft to avoid recurrence. The graft may be obtained from the conjunctiva of the same eye (autograft) or the fellow eye. Other tissues such as amniotic membrane are often used.
