Cataract

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world, it occurs when the natural lens in the eye becomes cloudy obscuring vision and scattering light. People suffering from cataracts experience foggy vision and glare, especially from bright lights more notable at night. Cataract is mostly due to advancing years however, people with diabetes may also develop cataract early in age. Cataracts may also develop following eye injury; in following eye injury children and in among other causes. If not treated, cataract eventually leads to blindness

The only treatment for cataract is surgery where the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial (intraocular lens) lens implanted in the eye. The surgery must be performed by an experienced surgeon to avoid complications. There are different methods of doing cataract surgery and also different types of intraocular lenses.
